Environmental Impact of Recycling Ink and Toner Cartridges

- Apr 07, 2018 -

Ink and toner cartridges are made of plastic and if they are put into a landfill, it may take 500 to 1000 years to decay. When ink and toner cartridges are recycled, they are not wasted in landfills. Reducing the amount of waste handled is just one of the favorable environmental impacts of using recycled ink cartridges.

Another benefit of using recycled ink cartridges is that they are made using less energy. The factories that make new cartridges need energy to create their products. Not only does it consume energy to make ink cartridges, each new cartridge contains oil in plastic. The average cartridge requires 3.5 ounces of oil.

Recycling inks and toner cartridges can have a huge impact on the environment. Since 97% of the ink cartridges can be recycled, this means that landfill waste is reduced, energy consumption is reduced, and factories that have to manufacture new cartridges are less polluting. This is another good example of how everyone goes green.
