How do Laser Printers Work?

- Oct 07, 2018 -

Laser printers are ubiquitous in office and copy environments. The first was developed by Xerox in 1971 and the 1977 was launched in the commercial market. Rapid, clear printing quickly made these printers a popular choice for many consumers, although the printer's internal work is still mysterious to many people. Because of this name, some consumers believe that these devices use lasers positively on paper to some extent. In fact, they actually use static electricity to print, even though the laser does work in the printing process.

When the printer receives data from the computer, the print job starts and the printer sends data through the central controller (small computer inside the printer). Many laser printers have a controller that can process multiple jobs simultaneously, put them in a queue, and then print them. This ability to process multiple sets of data makes this printer very popular. The process begins after the controller determines what to print.
